Pregnant women have been advised to avoid wearing shoes with high heels, trousers, or any other dress that will not ensure their safety and that of their unborn babies.

Some Medical practitioners gave the advise while speaking to the ABS in an exclusive interview in Awka.

Speaking on the issue, the Chief Medical Director of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr Lawrence Ikeakor, who frowned at the practice said it reduces blood circulation and as such could lead to the abnormal growth of the baby when delivered in addition to creating heartburn or acidic influx which are the common discomforts during pregnancy.

For another Medical practitioner, Dr Dominic Okeke, the act causes yeast infection, as according to him, pregnant women experiences an increase in vaginal secretions during pregnancy.

On her part, a Midwife with the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Mrs Edith Ndulue, regretted that some pregnant women go against ante-natal rules which restricts them from putting on tight clothings instead of their normal maternity gowns which gives them maximum comfort needed during pregnancy.

Some pregnant women who spoke to the ABS, Mrs Maryjane Umeocho, said she prefers putting on maternity gowns to trousers or tight clothings during pregnancy as it provides her with enough comfort, as against the separate reactions of Mrs Ifeoma Onyekwe, and Mrs Ngozi Ojukwu, who prefer wearing trousers to maternity gowns especially when they are four to five months pregnant.
