The National Assembly, has been called upon to make a legislation that will encourage more women to seek elective positions in the country.
The Archbishop Ecclesiastical province of the Niger, and Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Most Reverend Christian Efobi, made the call while declaring open the 12th Aguata Diocesan Women’s Conference at Immanuel Parish Akpugoeze in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Most Reverend Efobi who described women as better managers of resources, called on government at all levels to appoint women to positions of trust.
He called on the Federal government, to map out far reaching measures that will reduce the high rate of poverty and unemployment in the country.
Speaking on the theme of the conference, “be at peace with everyone”, Most Reverend Efobi, who is the immediate past Dean Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, called on government at all levels to create a peace and advocacy commission for enhanced peaceful co-existence among the citizenry.
In an address, the President of the Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Dame Jane Efobi, regretted the high rate of inflation in the country, and called on the Federal government to form a committee of experts that will manage and coordinate the Nation’s economy, for optimum results.
Dame Jane used the opportunity to call on the government to constitute a panel of inquiry into the recent killings of Innocent souls in Southern Kaduna, with a view to bringing the perpetrators of such act to book, to serve as a warning to others.
She commended Governor Willie Obiano, for his effective security network which has led to influx of investors to the state and his wife Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu for using her Non-governmental organization, the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFÉ, to improve the living standard of women and children and called for its sustenance.
