Women have been charged to embrace agriculture as an alternative means of surviving the present economic hardship in the country.

The wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, gave the charge in a paper presentation  on ”Agriculture as a small scale business “, during the fifth edition of the Southern governors Wives Forum, currently ongoing in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Chief Mrs Obiano, who described agriculture as the base for sustainable economic development, urged the women to venture into it which she said would not only put food on their tables, but will also improve their financial status.

Speaking on the activities of her Non Governmental Organization, the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, its target, as well as achievements since formation, Chief Mrs Obiano, called on women to avail themselves the opportunity of acquiring skills for self reliance

She further explained that one could venture into subsistent farming to provide enough food for the household, apart from the mechanized type where food is produced in a large quantity for market.

Others who spoke at the event were the wives of Enugu, Abia, and Akwa Ibom State Governors, amongst others.

The event which attracted wives of the seventeen southern Governors, gave them the opportunity to rub minds on ways of championing the cause of the womenfolk in the country.
