Governor Willie Obiano has inspected ongoing construction work on the 11 kilometer Mmiata Anam-Nzam Road in Anambra West Council Area.

Government House correspondent kenechukwu Ofomah was on the inspection train and observed that excavation and filling has been achieved on about 5 kilometers on the road with major culverts at strategic points to dispel flood.

Speaking after the inspection,Governor Obiano said his government is embarking on the very difficult road because it leads to major food basket communities in the Anambra West area which hitherto, can only be accessed through neighbouring Kogi state.

This he noted, has made evacuation of agricultural produce from the area into the state difficult and as such, the farmers are not able to get the right value for their farm produce.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work already done on the site and promised that as its resources permit, his government will continue to provide funds for the completion of the project.

 

Governor Obiano also inspected construction work on the seven and half kilometer road linking the major road at Iyiora Anam to the Orient Petroleum Facility at Enugwu Otu Aguleri.

Governor Obiano who expressed delight that the Iyiora bridge has been completed with the best standards, also pointed out that the height of the road has been raised very high to ensure that no amount of flood can submerge the road.

He assured the people of Anambra West that the road will be executed in line with best practices in road construction, to be able
to carry heavy duty vehicles carrying petroleum products to and from the Oil facility, urging them to remain supportive of his administration to enable it fully realize its lofty vision for the development of the area.

In their separate emarks, the Member representing Anambra West Constituency in the State Assembly, Mr Victor Jideofor and the Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Science and Technology, Prince Chinedu Emeka observed that the advent of the Obiano administration has reversed the total neglect of the area by previous administrations, adding that, they will reciprocate thegesture by supporting his administration.

Also speaking, the state chairman, Akpokuodike Action Group For Continuity, Mr Michael Nwofia who is an indigene of Iyiora Anam, said a lot of economic activities with the capacity to improve the people’s standard of living are already cropping up with the commencement of the project and commended the governor for remembering them, promising that they will vote massively for him in the upcoming guber election later this year.

The governor was received by key stakeholders in the area including traditional rulers, government officials, women and school children with solidarity chants.
