The State Government has taken delivery of boxing equipment worth about three point five million naira donated by Bullet Energy Company for the development of grassroot boxing in the state.

Government House Correspondent Kenechukwu Ofomah reports that the equipment which is enough to kit up a standard boxing gym include head guards, punch bags, speed balls, body guards, boxing gloves, punching pads among others.
Addressing newsmen, the Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr Uju Nworgu also revealed that the company is to donate a standard boxing ring for boxing competitions.
Dr Nworgu who said the State Government has initiated so many measures to advance grassroot sports in the state, pointed out that it was as a result of these giant strides of the government, that the company had indicated interest to partner the state in the development of grassroot boxing.
According to her, the partnership which is a major boost in the present administration’s efforts to garner the support of the private sector towards development of sports, will ensure that young talents are discovered early and nurtured for greater exploits in boxing.
Thanking the Company for showing interest in the state, The Youths Commissioner said the Ministry will continue to explore strategic partnerships in the Sports sector to create the avenue for the potentials of youths in the state to find expression.
On his part, the Public Relations Officer of the Company, Mr Anthony Uche-Kalu explained that they were encouraged to support the state because of the level of commitment shown by the present administration towards developing boxing on a larger scale.
He revealed that as part of their corporate social responsibility, they are trying to set up a grassroot boxing league in the country which is expected to kick off by April next year and will soon unveil the State Boxing Team for the tournament drawn from the twenty one council areas of the state.
Mr Uche – Kalu further disclosed that they intend to partner the state in other areas of Sports.
Symbolic presentation of the equipment and kitting up of some of the kid boxers formed the Highpoints of the briefing.
