The State Citizenry has been urged to form the habit of planting trees to achieve sustainable environment.

An Environmentalist, Professor Valeri Nnodu, made the call while speaking to the ABS on the benefits of trees to human existence in Awka.
Human needs are highly dependent on air, water and food which are some of the end products of trees.
Trees also supply timber, medicine, prevent erosion, provide shelter to man among others.
It is on this basis that Professor Nnodu, stressed the need for the citizenry, particularly those in urban areas to plant trees.
The Environmentalist, expressed worry that urbanization has overtaken the culture of tree planting, and the quality of the environment  deteriorated significantly.
She noted that trees that hitherto intercept sunlight, rain fall are no longer there as a result the society, now have the incident of sunlight and full impact of torrential rains directly on the earth.
Dr Shalom Onwuka, of the Department of Environmental Management Nnamdi Azikiwe University, explained that to encourage planting of trees in urban areas and curtail the rate at which people fell trees, urbanization processes must be well planned.
Dr Onwuka also urged the citizenry to plant trees because it has a way of ameliorating the temperature of an environment and provides clean air for man.
