The State Government has commenced palliative work on the four kilometer stretch from Awkuzu to Umunya along the Awka-Onitsha Express way.

It was reported that heavy duty bulldozers were on ground leveling the heaps of laterite on one side of the road and excavating unsuitable materials on the other when he arrived.
The very bad spot which had hitherto been impassable causing motorists untold hardship, has also been made accessible with the commuters plying on one side of the road.
Speaking after inspecting the ongoing work, Governor Obiano explained that his administration’s decision to embark on the palliative work was to make the road motorable especially with the yuletide fast approaching.

The governor who revealed that the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola had on one of his visits to the state held at his instance, promised that the Federal government will do something about the deplorable condition of the road, however noted that so far, nothing has happened.
According to him, although it is a Federal Road, the State government is intervening to save the people who ply the road from the hardship they face on daily basis, with the hope that the Federal Government will fulfill its promise to reconstruct the road.
He expressed the hope that the Federal government will soon reimburse the 43.8 billion naira it is owing the state on road works to enable it aggressively embark on road construction works across the state.
