A two day workshop on digital broadcasting has commenced in Awka for staff of the programmes Department of the Anambra Broadcasting Service.
The workshop which is taking place at the Havila Hotel and Suites Awka was declared open by the permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Communication Strategy, Sir Benjamin Umerah.
Correspondent Ifeanyi Nwosu quotes Sir Benjamin as describing the workshop as apt especially now every electronic media is striving not to be left behind in the race for migration from analogue to digital broadcasting.
He expressed satisfaction with the pedigree of the lead paper presenters and advised the participants to put into practice the knowledge they will garner from the workshop.
In a lead paper presentation, a Lagos based Communication expert, Mr Ayo Makinde enjoined the ABS as a brand, to endeavour to discover what its listeners and viewers need, so as to carry them along in its information management.
Also speaking, a writer and commentator, Professor Okey Ndibe, stressed the need for effective use of the right language for expressions as broadcasters.
In their separate speeches, the Director of Programmes, Mr. Don Onyenji, and his News and current Affairs counterpart, Mr Gab Okpalaeze, both explained that the workshop is necessary especially now every media station is bracing for digital era.
