The secretary to the state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu says the state government is in a haste to provide competitive services as well as ensure that the state plays a significant role in both national and global economic spectrum.

Professor Chukwulobelu disclosed this at a two day meeting on finalization and validation of Anambra State Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector Wide Approach road map organized by the ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development partners in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund and European Union held in Awka.
Appraising the state governments exploits in the WASH sector among other areas in the state, Professor Chukwulobelu represented by the permanent Secretary in the Office, Dr. Dan Ezeanwu said the state is proud of its place as one of the few with WASH policy, Water law, investment plans and Open Defecation Free roadmap, hence the need to develop a work plan that will take into consideration, sustainable development Goals, national development priorities and development goals and objectives.
Professor Chukwulobelu further said the operational and organizational structures for Urban, Small town and rural levels will be strengthened and the regulatory framework adopted to enable compliance within the sector and assured that the state government will always pay its counterpart funds and provide the enabling environment for efficient and effective service delivery to deliver in the WASH effectively.
Declaring the meeting open, the commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development partners, Mr. Mark Okoye represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr. Kingsley Orji said that as the world gears towards the implementation of the sustainable Development Goals, the Sector Wide Approach process tends to target the fulfillment of goals two, three and most especially goal six which is to ensure availability and sustainable management of Water and Sanitation for all and urged them to come up with recommendations that will enable the achievement of developmental objectives of the state  especially in the WASH sector.
Giving the overview of the WASH SWAP road map, the swap state consultant Mr. Roy Ndoma Egba made it clear that Anambra has to consolidate on the gains made so far in the sector and pointed out that the goal of the work plan is to institute a sustainable, efficient, effective and viable Water sector which he said needs the commitment of the government and the development partners.
Goodwill messages came from the representatives of UNICEF, European Union, Civil society organizations, among others while participants were drawn from all the relevant ministries and stakeholders in the state.
