The need for Medical Practitioners to be properly equipped for effective treatment of sickle Cell anemia has been stressed.

The Chief Medical Director, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor stated this at the opening ceremony of a four day workshop for Medical Practitioners at the hospital complex.
Dr. Ikeakor said that the essence of the workshop was for better training and awareness among health workers and the public.
On her part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Sickle Cell Alliance Incorporated, Dr. Victoria Odesina, noted that people with sickle cell are often at an increased risk of contracting serious infections.
According to her, the training of Doctors and Nurses is for them to have better knowledge and understanding of the condition of patients with sickle cell anemia Contributing, the Director Medical services in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Azubuike Nweje, said that health workers when properly trained will make a huge difference to thousands of people with sickle cell disease.
