Resident doctors working at National Orthopedic Hospital Enugu, yesterday embarked on an indefinite strike over alleged discrimination, intimidation, oppression and nonchalant attitude of the hospital’s management to their general welfare.

In a two-page letter jointly signed by the President and Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors of the hospital namely Dr Ifeanyi Anikwe and Dr Ifeanyi Okorie titled, “Commencement of Indefinite Strike Action” addressed to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Cajetan Nwadinigwe, of which a copy was made available to journalists in Enugu, the association said they were compelled to withdraw their services from the hospital as a result of the failure of the hospital management to meet their five-point demands after several correspondences.
The resident doctors said the option of industrial action was considered at last since Dr Nwadinigwe, the Chief Medical Director showed no sign of concern to their outlined grievances within the 21-day ultimatum the association gave the management, which has since expired.
