Government at all levels has been called upon to beef up security in all media outfits in the country to ensure the safety of its workers and installations.
The National Vice President South East Radio Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu made the call during the union’s solidarity visit to Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, Onitsha to commiserate with the state on the attack it experienced recently.
The RATTAWU boss who described the attack as disheartening reiterated the need for upgrading of security in media establishment, describing media practitioners as fighters of other people’s battle.
Prince Kalu, stressed the need for love and solidarity amongst media workers, disclosing that the visit was to strengthen the spirit of oneness among media outfits in the state, noting that in unity they would serve the government and the general public better.
For his part, the state Chairman of the Union, Comrade Andy Onwughalu, thanked God for not allowing any casualty to be recorded in the attack, praying that the station would not experience such incident again.
Responding, the General Manager Nigeria Television Authority Onitsha, Mr. Christian Nwangwe, appreciated the union and commended the members for the solidarity spirit shown to them noting that such spirit is what is needed among media practitioners to make the profession more interesting.
To affirm the factuality of the attack, the NTA boss conducted members of the union round the station, where they observed some damages at different areas of the state.
They also discovered weapons like unexploded bomb and dagger in an apartment of the state.
