Federal. Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has called on commercial vehicle drivers to install speed limiting device in their vehicles on or before October first this year which is the deadline for installing the device  or face prosecution.

The call was made by the Core Marshal, FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi at a one day public enlightenment on the new date for the enforcement of the speed limiting device which took place at Nwugo park, Onitsha
The Core Marshal who was represented by Mr Kayode Fanola, Assistant Core Marshal, FRSC, said the speed limiting device will go a long way in reducing carnage on high ways as over fifty percent accidents recorded on Nigeria roads are caused by over speeding.

Mr Fanola pointed out that lives of passengers depend on the competency of the driver whose mistake can affect the lives of all the Passengers on board. On his part, zone 5 commanding officer, Mr.Shehu Zaky said the aim of the programme was to sensitize the people on benefits of speed limiting device and the need for drivers to be careful this Ember months because a lot of activities take place within the period causing heavy human and vehicular movements that make the roads very busy.
Earlier, the State Sector Commander, Mr. Sunday Ajayi thanked the state government for its support to the Commission as well as stakeholders in the transport sector noting that the programme is apt as drivers drive at a very high speed during these months and advised them to install this device to save lives.The State Commissioner for Transport, Water and Rail, Mrs. Chinwe Nwabili represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr.Ferdinand Obi noted that Speed Limiting Device is a national programme which all stakeholdets should be involved adding that the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has been demonstrating his passion on road safety through his various works on road safety.
The Chairman, house Committee on Transport in a remark stressed that life has no spare and thanked the FRSC for organizing the event.
Other stakeholders who spoke during the event include Professor Peter Katchy,  Anambra state vice chairman, Red Cross society, Mr Afam Emmanuel from Consumer Protection Agency among others.
Speed Limiting Device Vendors also educated the people on how the Speed Limiter works. Corp Members attached to FRSC also acted drama on safety tips to reinforce the need for drivers to be safety conscious. Question and answer session also featured at the event.
