The Onitsha Divisional Library in conjunction with Ezeemo Gallery has organised a one day programme in Fine Art for school children to enable them explore and exploit their talents in Arts for self empowerment to meet up with the challenges of time.
School children  mostly in nursery and primary schools were actively engaged in different drawings and paintings as well making beautiful inscriptions on polo shirts. Speaking to the ABS, Mrs Okenyi Ugoeze,
Acting Director, Anambra State Library Service Board, said the aim of the programme was to empower the children in Fine Arts and bring out their creative minds, pointing out that what they learnt will assist them in making occasion cards and other art works. Mrs Ugoeze said that the programme which is an annual event,will be extended to other parts of the state and advised parents to encourage their children to achieve the aim.
A Librarian, Mrs Ngozi Osuji hinted that the fine Art project falls under the Children Service Department of the library, pointed out that it helps a lot in cognitive development of the child.On her part,Mrs Martina Chienedo, Onitsha Divisional Librarian, called on parents to always take their children to the library to read and participate in such programmes while Barrister Ifeyinwa Udorji commended the initiation and art works done by the children.
On his part, Mr. Uchechukwu Ezeemo, a graduate of fine Arts from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka said teaching children skills early will empower them for the future and also engage them meaningfully. Others who spoke including Chike Okpara, Blessing Nnagbo and Emegbu Chukwuanugo affirmed that children have hidden talents and skills which need to be identified and showcased which the programme aims to achieve. The children who were visibly excited, displayed their works and thanked the organizers for taking them through the world of Arts.
