Wives of fourteen state governors are among dignitaries being expected in Minna, Niger state capital for today’s commissioning of a Cancer Screening Centre by the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari.

The commissioning of the Cancer Screening Centre, an initiative of Niger state Governor’s wife, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello will also mark the formal take-off of her ‘Raise Foundation – a Reproductive, Advocacy, Safe Spaces and Empowerment Project.

The devastation caused by Cervical Cancer, the commonest ailment among women, particularly those at the grassroots level in the state is so alarming hence the need for the intervention, a statement by the Press Secretary to the Governors’ wife, Aisha Wakaso said.
“Records have shown that different types of Cancer, particularly Cervical Cancer has led to untimely deaths of a number of women including those beclouded by superstition that Cancer is as a result of witchcraft”.
Cases of deaths, dejection abound of women who are dying in silence out of ignorance, the statement said, adding that recent reports in the state have shown and this is occasioned by inadequate screening centre for early detection and treatment to save the lives of the victims.
Raise Foundation Cancer Screening Centre is built to feel the gap, complement state government’s healthcare delivery programmes and help to drastically reduce the devastating consequences of Cancer among women.
The statement which however did not give details of the Governor’s wives expected also solicited for the support of well spirited Nigerians to the state’s health sector as government alone cannot meet the daunting cost of providing quality and affordable health care for all.
