Two communities, Ayamabele/Kalaba and Akumoni, in Yenagoa Local Government area of Bayelsa state are now in danger, following several oil spills which are yet to be cleaned up.
Residents of the two communities told newsmen that if urgent stepsĀ not taken to address their plight, they might be forced to take their destinies in their own hands.
According to them, several representations had been made to the concerned oil firm to clean up the oil spills, but all their entreaties were said to have fallen on deaf each.
They claimed that some of the people behind the vandalisationĀ of pipelines had refused to allow the clean-up to take place.
Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council, Comrade Joel M. Joel, narrated the efforts made be the community to resolve the problems caused by the multiple spills in the two communities.
