Staff of the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, yesterday organized a grand send-off for the immediate past Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Chief Tony Onyima.
Correspondent, Ejike Abana, reports that the event, which took place at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, had the Permanent Secretary, Directors and Chief Executives of the Parastatals and Agencies under the Ministry, Staff and friends of the Ministry in attendance.
The celebration was to honour the outgoing Commissioner and also welcome the present one, Dr. Uju Nworgu, to the Ministry.
In her speech, Dr Nworgu extolled Chief Onyima for serving the Ministry and the State creditably describing him as one who has exhibited the qualities of a good leader in the state.
Commissioner Nworgu pointed out that he had touched the lives of others and left enviable legacies, praying God to give him the strength and courage to excel in his future endeavours.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Leo Imoka, expressed delight that Chief Onyima had recorded landmark achievements during his tenure.
The Director of Information, Mr. Emeka Oluoha and Director of Tourism, Mr. Emma Umeokana, described the fourteen months of working with Chief Onyima as eventful, noting that he had the drive to move the Ministry forward, while expressing hope that the Ministry will move higher under the new Commissioner in furtherance of Governor Obiano’s vision.
In their goodwill messages, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, the Managing Director, National Light Newspapers and Director of Operations, Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Messrs Uche Nworah, Chuka Nnabuife and Jude Emecheta, respectively, said that they had a cordial working relationship with Chief Onyima, who they said, gave them the needed advice and support.
They prayed that God will give Dr. Nworgu the inspiration and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the Ministry.
Responding, Chief Onyima in an emotion laden voice, appreciated the staff of the ministry for the honour, emphasizing the need for team work and dedication to duty while also urging them to accord Commissioner Nworgu similar cooperation they gave him.
While pointing out that life is full of transitions, Chief Onyima highlighted some of his achievements with the help of the staff, calling on Dr. Nworgu to endeavour to consolidate on them, especially in the area of ensuring that the bills from the Ministry pending on the floor of the House of Assembly see the light of the day.
