Tertiary Institutions in the country have been charged to continuously engage in research in order to find solutions to difficult situations in the country.
The Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Joseph Ahaneku, gave the charge during the 2015 Annual International Conference organized by the faculty of Arts of the Institution in Awka.
Correspondent, Gab Alokwe, writes that Professor Ahaneku, represented, commended the faculty of Engineering of the Institution for developing UNIZIK Automobile and charged other faculties to emulate them.
He lamented the level of moral decadence in the society, pointing out that people no longer respect their elders, calling for collective upbringing of children.
On his part, the chairman on the occasion, who is also a Deputy Vice Chancellor at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Tochukwu Mmadu, called on Africans to value their culture and tradition, noting that these are what define a people.
In a keynote speech, the Director, Institute of African Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Emeka Nwabueze, suggested the way forward for African scholars in humanities.
He spoke of the need to counter the misconception of African culture and values by Europeans and urged African scholars to conduct research and help in promoting African culture.
In a lead paper, Professor Chimalum Nwankeo of Nigerian-Turkish Nile University, Abuja, called for a new way of dealing with African culture.
Earlier in an address, the Dean, faculty of Arts of the Institution, Reverend Father Professor Boniface Obiefuna, listed some African values to include, those for life, hardwork and respect.
He attributed the cause of disappearance of African culture to slave trade, colonialism, religion, social Media and films and called for the use of African languages in communication.
