Mothers in the state have been enjoined to exclusively breastfeed their babies according to recommendations.
Governor Willie Obiano made the call at the flag off of the state's 2017 Breastfeeding Week held at Atani, Ogbaru local government area.
Health correspondent, Chibuzor Okoye reports that Governor Obiano, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Image, Mr. Paul Nwosu, appealed to mothers to ensure that they breastfeed their newborns according to the World Health Organization's recommendation for their children to be both mentally and physically sound.
The Governor reassured that his administration will continue to accord priority to the health needs of Ndi Anambra, as according to him, health remains a very critical component in the development of any nation.
The wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, represented by the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mrs Chioma Ezenyimulu, also advised mothers to take exclusive breastfeeding seriously because of its abundant benefits.
For the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, comryade Arinzechukwu Awogu, who is a native of Atani, mothers should heed the call for exclusive breastfeeding for the overall development of their children.
The State Coordinator, Baby Friendly Initiative Miss Ngozi Ekwedike lectured the mothers on proper ways of breastfeeding and maintaining hygienic environment while breastfeeding, among others.
The transition committee chairman for Ogbaru local government area, Mr. Ignatius Ezediokpu, also eulogized Governor Obiano for his achievements in the Health sector.
