Parents Charged To Sustain Immunization To Protect Children Against Killer Diseases


Parents have been urged to ensure regular and proper immunization of their children to protect them from childhood killer diseases.

Speaking in Awka, a medical practitioner , Professor Peter Katchy said there should be collective efforts towards reducing infant and maternal mortality by adhering more on preventive measures.

Professor Katchy who commended State governments efforts towards comprehensive immunization noted that the success of the exercise has eliminated diseases like polio in the state for the past ten years and reduced drastically the challenges of measles and whooping cough .

He urged the people to disregard rumours against immunization as vaccines are safe and administered according to guildlines and specifications of the World Health organization .

Professors Katchy enjoined mother to ensure that they give their children balance and healthy diet for normal physical and mental development as well cut down on their sugar intake to protect their vital organs .

Also speaking , the State Immunization Officer, Lady Florence Anene said the state has continued to record remarkable success in its immunization programmes.

Lady Florence explained that through targeted interventions , the state is tacking health challenges of mother and children as well as implementing maternal and child health strategies .
