The movie "Omenala Igbo" has emerged winner of the 2017 Igbo Film Awards that held in Awka.

The award is to celebrate amateur films that promote Igbo language and Culture organized by Otu Suwakwa Igbo.
"Omenala Igbo" came out tops of the eight entries for the award with a prize money of one hundred thousand naira; "Anyamiri Obiajulu" came second, while "Akwaugo" came third.
While announcing the result, Mr Kelly Ihetu who spoke on behalf of other judges stated that the result was based on its showcase of Igbo Language and Culture, originality and production quality.
Earlier in an address, the President and Founder, Otu Suwakwa Igbo Professor Pita Ejiofor recalled the efforts being put in place by the organization in the promotion of language and culture which gave birth to the Igbo Film Awards introduced in 2012 by the Organization.
Others who spoke at the event include the Senio Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Comrade Arinze Awogu and the Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Chief Nzeemeka Olisah stated that the government has put a mechanism in place to ensure that language, culture, norms and values are inculcated in students.
The Igbo Film Award attracted different stakeholders in the promotion of Igbo language including Igbo Language teachers and authors, Ohaneze Ndiigbo, Youth Wing and many others.
