Anambra Govt Reassures On Partnership With FRSC

The State government says it will continue to partner the Federal Road Safety Corps, in promoting safety on the Highways.

The Secretary to the state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, who gave the assurance during the 2017 Special Marshals sectoral workshop at the State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, in Awka with the theme “Road Safety is a right not a privilege” commended the remarkable achievements of the corps over the years.

Professor Chukwulobelu, who was represented by the special Assistant to the Governor on social services, Mr. Nwabufo Nwankwo, expressed satisfaction with the contributions of the special Marshals in complementing the efforts of the Regular Marshals towards reducing road crashes.

He assured that the State Government will continue to give the command all necessary support and sustain the tempo of road infrastructural development across the state to further enhance smooth flow of traffic as well as reduce crashes on roads.

In an address, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, represented by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Commanding Officer in charge of zone five, Mr. Kehinde Adeleye, observed that the special Marshals have assisted in realizing the vision evolving a safer road culture in the country.

Mr. Oyeyemi said promoting road safety should be a collective responsibility noting that through sustained efforts, the Corps has achieved most of the goals set for the year including advocacy and public enlightenments.

In a speech, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, who disclosed that two hundred and thirty accidents were recorded last year which claimed fifty-five lives, while five hundred and seventy-eight victims sustained injuries, assured that the corps would not relent in enforcing all traffic rules and sustaining public enlightenment progammes.

Highlight of the event was the investiture of the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chukwulobelu and an industrialist, Chief Anthony Enukeme, as honorary Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps in view of their support and encouragement to the agency.
