How False Rumors Shut Schools In Awka, Others


Awka metropolis was thrown into confusion yesterday following the rumors of solders engaging in immunization services in primary and secondary schools in some parts of the state.

When the ABS visited some private and public schools it was confirmed that many schools in the State have been forced to close classes due to reports from many quarters that pupils are forced to take immunization which leads to immediate death.

Speaking to Journalist at Igwedimma Primary school Amawbia , the Headmistress Mrs. Stella Anene and Sir Uchechukwu Anaekeokwu, Principal Igwebuike Grammer school said that a mammoth crowd of parents forcefully brought down the entrance gate of the school with conflicting versions of rumors and gained assess to the classes and made away with their children and wards .

While assuring the parents and guardians of a good conducive learning atmosphere, they noted that the school never recorded any presence of Immunization personnel or guests and reminded parents that the primary aim of the school authorities is to safeguard the lives of the students, calling on them not to give in to cheap rumors and bring back the students as Anambra state is safe and secure. The ABS team observed that some students were seen running helter scelter as the forceful immunization reports went viral separating them from their parents as confirmed by Mr Abukarh Tardeous and Mrs. Juliana Okoye who called on the state government to do the needful in ensuring that before any Immunization takes place, those involved should get approval from the appropriate authorities.

At the time of this report the state government has already suspended the medical outreach being under taken by the Army in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo council Area.
