The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to commence immediate rehabilitation of the Enugu, Onitsha Federal road which has become impassable.
The resolution which emanated as a matter of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Nnewi South One Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Iruba was passed during yesterday's plenary in Awka.
Honourable Iruba regretted that the bad condition of the highway has caused untold hardship to the road users and compelled heavy duty vehicles to now ply Anambra State internal roads, which are not built for such vehicles.
Lending creedence to this fact, the member representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Honourable Chugboo Enwezor, his Orumba North Constituency counterpart, Chief Romanus Obi and the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida added that frequent accidents that occur on the road claim lives and hamper socio-economic activities of the states.
The Deputy speaker, Sir Harford Oseke who presided over the plenary called on legislators in the National Assembly from the South East zone to rise to the occasion by ensuring that the road is rehabilitated .
In supporting motion for adjournment, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr Pete lbida expressed delight that Mr. Clement Okodu Nwoye from Central School Abagana, recently emerged the best primary school teacher in Nigeria, attributing it to the high premium Governor Willie Obiano placed on education and the laws the House has enacted on education
