UNICEF, Traditional Rulers Seek Roadmap To End Open Defecation In Aguata

State

The UNICEF Wash Sanitation and Hygiene Office has concluded a one day sensitization meeting on Open Defecation Roadmap in Aguata Local Government Area with traditional rulers under the council area.

The sensitization meeting held at Ekwuloba was to brainstorm on proper sanitation method and best way to maximize amenities under the domain of the royal fathers.

The participating communities including Isuofia, Uga, Oraeri, Ezinifite, Amesi, Akpo, Umuchu and Igboukwu among others made input on better ways to ensure proper hygiene and sanitation among members of the communities and how well to protect and maintain amenities in the various communities.

In his speech, the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, Igwe Chukwukadibia Oyeneke noted that such forum provides a platform for the traditional rulers to interact with partnering and donor agencies like WASH on how well to achieve results on hygiene and development and called for the resuscitation of the Obizi water scheme to provide water for most communities in the council area and reduce the cost of sinking and maintaining boreholes.

In his remark, the traditional ruler of Isuofia, Igwe Christopher Moughalu commended UNICEF and other supporting agencies for remaining steadfast in promoting hygiene, sanitation and development among communities.

The Aguata UNICEF WASH consultant Mr. Obinna Ogbodo assured that all issues raised will be looked into.
