Women have been advised to always examine their body for early detection and prevention of cancer of all sorts.

This was the highpoint of speeches made during the second edition of the Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora, Foundation health symposium on “Breast Self Examination and Awareness creation on the Preventive Strategies against Breast and Cervical Cancers in Young Women.

During the event which took place at Stella Maris Secondary School Umueri in Anambra East council area, senior secondary school students drawn from all the public secondary schools under Otuocha Education Zone were exposed to ways of examining themselves for the deadly disease for timely detection and prevention.

The OCI foundation which is a nongovernmental organization registered and recognised as a charity body in Australia was established in 2016 with the primary aim of bridging the health and
education gaps between the rich and poor in the society.

In a remark, the wife of the state Governor Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano represented by the state Executive Secretary Primary Health Development Agency Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu commended the efforts of the founder of the NGO Dr. Chris Ifediora in championing the course of the girl child which she said is in line with the commitment of the Obiano led administration and her CAFE initiative, calling on other wealthy citizens of the state to borrow a leaf from him for a better state.

Speaking through a video record, the Founder of the NGO Dr Ifediora promised to continue to positively transform lives especially that of the indigent persons in the society through the platform by giving more scholarships to young people.

In her address, the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Lady Joy Ulasi who noted that education is all about partnership, said that no government can single handedly sponsor education hence the need for philanthropists and wealthy individuals to support with their resources for the benefit of the younger generation.

In a symposium lecture on breast and cervical cancer, a Public Medicine Physician Dr. Emmanuel Azuike listed genetic, early menstruation, too much weight, smoking and alcohol as some of the risk factors of breast cancer, recommending high consumption of vegetables, regular exercise and avoidance of fattening foods as some of the preventive measures.

The Zonal Director PPSSC Otuocha Zone, Lady Victoria Onyebo, the Manager and Principal of Stella Maris Secondary School, Reverend Father Cletus Idu, and Mrs Chinwe Agu appreciated the group for their kind gesture and contributions to human development in the zone, disclosing that a lot of students in the zone have benefited from the NGO’s scholarship program up to university level.
