Two hundred and fifty seven women were recently initiated into the life membership of the Catholic Women Organization of Onitsha Archdiocese.
The event held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha attracted parishioners from various zones and regions of the Archdiocese.
The new life members were surrounded by family members, relations, friends and well- wishers , who came to share in their joy.
In a homily during a mass to mark the event , the Archbishop and metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical province Most Reverend Valerian Okeke observed that life membership is the highest honour of race through CWO, adding that members are respected and honoured for their doggedness in labour, strategy and fight of faith and for salvation .
He said there is no age barrier as wisdom is not measured by old age.
Admonishing the new members to strive for the promised land , Archbishop Okeke enjoined them not to be seen as slaves in Egypt, rather as ark of the covenant in emulating the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
He enjoined them to be seen as light to others, as well as shun attitude that neglects the position they are called to serve.
The Prelate frowned at the level of society decay, challenging women as nation builders to strive towards building society of uprightness and justice , cautioning them against selfishness.
Speaking to ABS, one of the new members, Lady Evan Uche Ezegbolu of Catholic Community Idemili South Council area, expressed gratitude to God for counting her worthy of the Honour.
Lady Evan said her new position will spur her in evangelism, pointing out that such call, is a call to serve God and humanity.
Others who spoke including Lady Chidebelu, Mr. Angela Oyibo , Ndulue Virginia , Esther Menkiti, Mercy Nwachukwu, Virginia Igbonekwu, prayed for the grace for more exploits in the Lord’s Vineyard.
In a remark, the Director Catholic Women Organization Onitsha Archdiocese, Lady Ngozi Nwanosike advised them not to weaver in faith as full Catholics , rather utilize their time and resources for evangelism despite tide and tribulations.
In an interview, the Director News and Current Affairs Mr. Gab Okpalaze commended the church for ensuring that women are in the forefront as the pillar of the society and highlighted the pivotal role of women as role models and nation builders, advising the new members to toe the path of biblical women who made positive impact in evangelism by winning souls for Christ.
