The Anambra State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) over the weekend elected new executive members to lead the organisation in the state.
The elected officials were twenty in number.
The election held at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka, produced twenty officials with Comrade Samuel Egwuatu emerging as Chairman of the youth body, having scored one hundred votes to beat his rival Obinna Okolo who scored sixty- six votes.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria, an umbrella body which represents young people in Nigeria provides a platform for the advancement, mobilization and coordination of youth development, and the promotion of peace, unity and tolerance.
Attesting to the fairness of the election, a member representing South East Board of Trustees at the national level, Mr. Oscar Kalu said that the exercise was the most peaceful and fair election ever experienced since the inception of the Anambra state chapter, and urged the newly elected executive to hit the ground running as more work is expected of them by the council.
The National Vice President in charge of South East Council, Comrade Ogechukwu Nnamene who presided over the election said the atmosphere was very conducive for all aspirants to contest and described Anambra state as a pace setter for others to emulate.
Expressing his profound gratitude to God and to the Council for seeing him worthy of their votes, the newly elected chairman Comrade Egwuatu assured that his tenure will be all inclusive, where all will work together to achieve the goal of the Council.
Some of the newly elected Excos members who spoke to ABS, pledged their loyalty to the service of the council while assuring of their willingness to improve on existing legacies even as they plan to establish new ones.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
