Twenty seven new communities in Aguata Council Area have been declared Open Defecation Free, ODF, by the UNICEF WASH team.
Some of the new ODF communities include: Ezeife, Ozalla Isuofia, Ihualla Akpo, Ndi Okolo Aguluezechukwu, Obinabo Nkpologu and others. In his address at the certificate presentation ceremony to the twenty seven communities, the Chairman of the Council Area, Honourable Eche Ezeibe, represented by Mrs. Ebere Okonkwo, congratulated the communities that attained ODF, calling on the remaining twenty five communities to buckle up so as to attain the status, as their partnership with UNICEF WASH has brought change to the area. Contributing, the wife of the State Governor, represented by her CAFE Director, Mrs. Mary Oguguo and the Traditional Ruler of Ikenga, Igwe Alfred Onuneme, enjoined the communities not to relent on the ODF status achieved saying that the office of the Governor’s wife has built toilet facilities in markets among others to support ODF in the state. In their separate speeches, the representative of the UNICEF Field Office, Enugu, Mr. Clement Chigbo and the Aguata WASH consultant, Mr. Obinna Ogbodo, noted that since the beginning of the programme, a lot of progress have been made in all communities in the Council Area in terms of promotion of hygiene and achieving ODF as Anambra state government has been a great supporter through regular and prompt payment of its counterpart funds. Some of the community representatives that achieved ODF who spoke to the ABS, including, Mrs. Juliana Ochuba and Mrs Chiadi Ejikeme said it is a thing of joy to have achieved such a noble fit as their communities are now living healthier life.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
