Anambra Govt To Commence Rehabilitation Of Collapsed Boreholes Across The State


The state Government says it will commence rehabilitation of non- functional boreholes in the state immediately the 2018 Appropriation Bill is passed by the state House of Assembly.

The Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Resources, Mr. Obi Nwankwo, disclosed this while defending the 2018 proposed budget of the Ministry before the House committee on Power and Domestic Power Resources at the House of Assembly complex.

Mr. Nwankwo gave an assurance that all the boreholes in various communities in the state that did not function in the past will be rehabilitated this year.

He also informed the committee that the Ministry will embark on more rural electrification and street lighting to open up the areas as well as extend electricity to new layouts across the state.

Mr. Nwankwo added that the Ministry will drill more boreholes to ensure adequate water supply to the people.

In his reaction, the Chairman, House Committee on Power and Domestic Water resources, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, applauded the Ministry for doing so well in the areas of rural electrification and street lighting and charged it to ensure that Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka Water Schemes are reticulated as stipulated in their 2018 Budget Proposal in the interest of the state.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Nkoli Nmegbuanaeze has charged the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to realize its vision of executing affordable Housing Scheme for the people this year.

Speaking after her Committee scrutinized the 2018 proposed budget of the Ministry, Mrs Mmegbuanaeze noted that the project, if accomplished, will reduce the housing deficit in the state and bring down the cost of available ones, especially in major cities.
