Anambra Govt Targets More Empowerment Of Women, Physically Challenged Persons

The State House of Assembly Committee on Women’s Affairs and Social Development has pledged to partner the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Development in the implementation of its 2018 budget proposals.

The Committee gave the assurance when the Ministry appeared before it to defend its 2018 budget estimate.

The committee which spoke through its Chairman, Princess Nikky Ugochukwu, expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the 2017 budget of the Ministry and charged it to surpass achievements recorded in 2017, this year.

The committee noted that funds allocated to the Ministry last year were used in improving the living standards of women and physically challenged persons, which has given them a sense of belonging.

Presenting the proposal and prospects of the Ministry, its Commissioner, Dr. Victoria Chikwelu explained that the Ministry is determined to establish more skill acquisition centres for women in the State, provide physically challenged persons who have been trained in various fields of human endeavour with various empowerments that will make them self reliant, establish more schools for the visually impaired persons among others.

She however, appealed to the Committee to increase the budgetary allocation of the Ministry to enable it accomplish its projects this year.
